The European Parliament Mediator for International Parental Child Abduction was established in 1987 to provide assistance in situations were children from bi-national marriages are abducted by a parent.
The Mediator is tasked with finding a voluntary agreement between the abducting parent and the other parent, in the best interests of the child or children. As each child has a right to both parents, either parent can request a mediation procedure.
The current European Parliament Mediator is MEP Roberta Angelilli.
With an increasing interest in the service since its inception, Ms Angelilli has taken the initiative of introducing a Vademecum on the role of the European Parliament Mediator for International Parental Child Abduction.
This information booklet details two years of work by the Mediator and provides guidelines for MEPs, NGOs and citizens.
