Agriculture
Since my election to the European Parliament in 2004 I have been a full member of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee (AGRI). Like all committees of the Parliament members meet regularly and debate issues on our agenda. You can follow the work of the Committee and view its agenda here.
The Committee is responsible for the development and implementations of the Common Agricultural Policy, rural development, veterinary and plant health, animal welfare and forestry,
Arising from the Lisbon Treaty, the Agriculture Committee has a much greater say in the decision-making process at European level as ‘co-decision’ means that the Parliament is equally involved with the European Commission and the Council. The Committee will therefore play a significant role in the reform of the CAP post-2013 and other policy initiatives anticipated in this legislature.
Issues of concern to individual member states about EU legislation can be raised at the Committee.
