Focus On - Environment
I am substitute member of the European Parliament's committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, known as ENVI.
The ENVI Committee is responsible for environmental policy and protection concerning: air, soil and water pollution, waste management and recycling, dangerous substances and preparations, noise levels, climate change and protection of biodiversity.
Sustainable development, International and regional measures and agreements aimed at protecting the environment, restoration of environmental damage and civil protection are also priorities of the Parliament's Environment committee.
From a public health perspective the ENVI committee is concerned with the programmes and specific actions in the field of public health, the safety of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products and health aspects of bioterrorism.
In relation to food safety issues the Environment committee is focused on the labelling and safety of foodstuffs, veterinary legislation concerning protection against risks to human health; public health checks on foodstuffs and food production systems.
